bits of January
a wonderful start to the new year!
January began with a kiss. Like many Januarys prior. By 12:01 am, my husband and I were leaving the bar and heading home, excited to eat a yummy treat and go to sleep.
I love the New Year. Everyone reflecting on their past year and looking forward for what is to come. Posting their favorite pictures and memories from 2025. Reflecting on accomplishments and failures. Making resolutions, mood boards, bingo sheets, and punch cards. It is such a beautiful time. Proof that humanity wants to be better, to grow.
The start of my January was full of that feeling. As the Bay Area experienced a heavy rainfall, I got cozy making plans for the year ahead, including making a fun bingo card for my husband and I.
As I made my goals and plans, the rain soaked through my ceiling and walls causing mold to grow. Sometimes you just need to find some mold behind your bed and immediately open craigslist and then find the perfect little two bedroom cottage for a reasonable rent that is only a short walk away from your office. And then you email them and set up a tour the following day. And then you tour the place with your partner and it is so perfect you decide to just take it. And then before the month is over you move there.
It was kind of an insane product of manifestation. On my bingo card was to move to a bigger place, not at all expecting it to be the first one to be achieved. Sometimes the universe is just on your side. Speak your goals out loud and the universe will listen.
Before this post gets taken over by me bragging about my new home, I shall inform you of other going-ons that have occurred in the first month of 2026.
As everyone was posting their 2016 memories, I was cursing my younger self for my poor technological archiving skills. Many photos from my high school and early college years are no where to be found. I deleted all my high school Instagram pictures after graduating because I was like, gonna be a whole new person or whatever in college. I never backed up my phone or used a hard drive or anything like that. They were always telling us the internet is forever! It is, in fact, not forever. My last resort is to try to get into my old iPhone, which I still need to grab from my parents house. I just want to remind the internet that I was really cool as a teen.

Went to our fav open-mic night. I hadn’t accompanied my husband in a while, and walking into the pub I swear, I felt like a celebrity. This pub’s open mic night has created such a fabulous community of individuals, many of whom are now friends. I decided next open mic I might try my hand at stand up, or perhaps read one of my poems. I want to join in on the fun!
As a belated birthday present to my husband, my parents took us out to SF MOMA. The museum is 7 stories full of modern art. We started at the top and worked our way down. Here, we were introduced to a fabulous artist’s work, Suzanne Jackson. We took our time browsing her paintings and mixed media sculptures. Some floors were more minimalist modern art, which we decided we didn’t really care about. Sorry, I don’t go to art museums to gaze at a beige canvas!!! By floor 4 or 5 we were panicking, unsure we would make it through the whole museum AND make it to the gift shop before closing. Obviously we have to go to the gift shop- art museum gift shops are a haven of trinkets. We rushed through the rest of the museum, browsed the gift shop, and left feeling cultured with gift bags in our hands.
Now, back to the move- sorry it was the biggest thing that happened this month. We were supposed to move on a Monday, but the Saturday before, my husband woke up and was like, what if we just move today? (Please note that it was not even 8am and we hadn’t finished packing.) But alas, when Mikey gets his mind set on something, it shall be done! I got out of bed to pee, came back and the mattress was gone. I hadn’t even had my coffee yet.
The physical moving went wonderfully because I barely had to do any of it (perks of marrying a big strong man). I did the packing and cleaning while he went back and forth from apartment to house, loading and unloading.
Facebook marketplace helped make our house a home. We bought a couch (long story on that coming up, trust me, it is a doozy), a drying rack, and a book shelf to start us off. I am trying not to rush to get all the things I want because I am all about the thrill of the find. I will not go to target or amazon and get everything I need. Not only are they unethical companies (that I still shop at but try to reduce my shopping as much as I can), they are BORING. And my house is the opposite of boring. We need fun and whimsy or NOTHING.
Also shoutout to my mom and dad for giving us two rugs and a lovely picture. The rugs are fabulous. Mikey put the picture right above the bed. He isn’t from California and doesn’t realize that we get earthquakes and the picture can fall on our heads and break open our skulls. But it looks nice and he thinks he hung it well so I’ll make that a future us problem.
I feel like a lot more happened but I simply cannot write anymore and it’s already February so I need to get this published. So that is all.
January Media Round Up
READING
I fear I only read one book this month. But I literally moved so like please give me some grace. Also many books are being read I just didn’t finish them so get over it!
The Guest List by Lucy Foley ~ I’ve never read any of Foley’s books, my friend said they are easy to get into after a slump, which I was in because I couldn’t figure out what my first book for the new year should be and it’s like who cares just read a book. Anyway, I enjoyed it and got into it quickly which is what I needed.
WATCHING
January was slim on reading but boy were we watching!
Started a new series called Outlander. I heard people talking about it at work and saw it was on Netflix and decided to give it a try. We are enjoying it so far but omg it a commitment! 7 seasons with god knows how many episodes and each episode is an hour. We shall see if we make it.
Wake Up Dead Man (2025) dir. Rian Johnson ~ I have never watched a Knives Out Mystery. Watched it at the beginning of the month and totally forgot about it. I enjoyed it alright but don’t have anything to say about it
Frankenstein (2025) dir. Guillermo del Toro ~ this was so sad I felt so bad for the monster :( he’s so LONELY. Fabulous job to all involved.
Charlie’s Angels (2000) dir. McG ~ I have never seen this classic. Very silly goofy. Needed more screen time from Lucy Liu. Glad I’ve finally watched it but no need to see it again.
The Swan (2023) dir. Wes Anderson ~ I love Wes Anderson and this was so kooky!! Very fun little short.
Poison (2023) dir. Wes Anderson ~ I think this one was my favorite, I love Dev Patel what can I say!!
The Rat Catcher (2023) dir. Wes Anderson ~ I don’t remember this one I fear. I think I was doomscrolling by this point (I watched all 3 in one sitting).
Shiva Baby (2020) dir. Emma Seligman ~ this was so good, so stressful, LOVED that it was the span of one day. I love Rachel Sennott. Five stars.
LISTENING
While packing and unpacking and cleaning, I needed music to accompany me.
Magdalena Bay, Caroline Polacheck, Lily Allen, Turnstile, the 1975, Miley Cyrus, and 5 Seconds of Summer were the soundtrack of my move.
I’ve also been trying to find new music- discovered the band she’s green and Folk Bitch Trio. Both very good band names. And they make good music too :)
ok that’s all, have a fabulous february!!!! love you!!!!

100% always go to the art museum gift shop it's one of the best parts (sorry to some of the art I also ignore)! Also, I'd say give the knives out trilogy a chance they're some of my favorite and they all have a different vibe :)
